Recipe - How to Cook the Perfect Christmas Turkey

Here at Rother Valley Organics we understand the importance of finding the perfect British turkey for Christmas Day, but having found the dream bird, do you know how to cook it to perfection?

 

Read on for our guide on how to store, prepare and cook your turkey in the lead up to Christmas day...

 

Storage

First things first, when you get your superb British turkey home it's important that you take good care of it before the "big day". Your turkey will be boxed, with vacuum packed giblets, fresh rosemary and a Pop-up Timer®.

 

Your turkey can remain in its box for a couple of days after purchase. If your bird is a large one, it may not fit in a box, and therefore it's important to remove it from the plastic bag it arrived in as soon as possible. If possible, place the turkey in a refrigerator, however, if it is too large you can place the bird in a cool, ventilated, animal and vermin proof position.

 
Preparation
To start, stuff the turkey with your favourite stuffing. We recommend using our Free Range Pork & Sage Sausage Meat mixed with breadcrumbs, sage and onion or any of your favourite Christmas additions.
 
Cooking Instructions

Next you will need to calculate your cooking time using the table below.

 

To cook the bird we follow instructions taken from The Good Housekeeping Cooking Book which has proved successful over many years. With this recipe, and regularly checking whether the Pop-up Timer included has popped, you are guaranteed not to over cook your turkey. The turkeys are hung in the traditional manner and are incredibly tender, therefore it's very important that you don't over cook it.

 

If using foil, unwrap the bird 30 mins before the total cooking time has finished to allow it to brown. Finally, let the bird stand for at least 10 - 15 minutes out of the oven to let the juices in the meat settle before carving.

Deliveries

 

Turkey is available for delivery to non local customers on Tuesday 19th December, Wednesday 20th December or Thursday 21st December. No deliveries on Friday 22nd or Saturday 23rd December. We are based between Petersfield and Midhurst in West Sussex.

 

Local deliveries will be Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st or Friday 22nd. Or you can collect from Monday 18th December until midday on Saturday 23rd December or from one of our Farmers Markets.
